The Lightning MultiCom Ethernet III has a third Ethernet interface for a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) or any other applications. Such applications include backup of an ADSL line using an ISDN router, like the Lightning Pocket MultiCom. The LAN interface has also an integrated four port full-duplex Ethernet switch. An IPSec option for 20 tunnels is available. 4 LAN Ethernet 10/100 switched ports interface + 1 WAN Ethernet 10 interface + 1 DMZ 10/100 interface. Three distinct Ethernet ports allow for dividing the network into a partially publicly accessible zone (such as E-mail, web or E-commerce server connected to the DMZ) and a completely protected zone (Intranet) to secure your sensitive company data. The integrated firewall is based on the latest Linux kernel 2.4 and provides extensive protection. Stateful Packet Filtering keeps track of the individual data packets as well as open connections. High-performance Logging functionality provides protection from hacker attacks and warns the administrator of possible intrusions. Each data packet can generate different Syslog messages with varying security levels and text content. Combined with integrated functionality for Traffic Shaping, it is possible to log just the first packet of a potential attack, thus increasing the efficiency of reporting.
