The software release 2.4.2 improves the compatibility with other hardware of other manufacturers, by automatically providing workarounds of standards-disgressions of PPP options by the implementations of these.
A few additional features include:
- The possibility to specify the number of rounds of the optional IDEA 128 bits encryption, which are applied, in order to be able to adjust the right security and performance levels for IP-level encryption
- The possibility to specify the priority for each remote site in relation with Lightning's exclusive "Never Busy Line" feature
- Better cost control: unsollicited incomming packets from ISDN, which are not replied by the internal network, are no longer keeping the line open
- The Ethernet LED, which gave the status only at startup, does not stay red anymore, but turns green, as soon as Ethernet traffic is successfully transmitted
Minor stability improvements have also been done in following areas:
- LAN Access Center with PRI interface and very high trafic load (>30'000 calls/day) do not generate short interruptions once every few days anymore
- Series IV & LAN Access Center fully loaded leased lines (at 2 Mbits/s) handle transmission errors more smoothly
- Improvement of IPX RIP and SAP handling in very large networks
- PPP IPCP negotiation loops are now totally avoided
- Compression statistics have been improved
- The FTP connexion duration with PAT has been augmented to 120 minutes, allowing to download about 100 compressed Mbytes at full speed
